Porcelain veneers – very thin, 0,3 – 0,5 mm thick porcelain plates, that are covered on front teeth. If needed, they are produced extremely thin – in such case teeth are refurbished as little as possible. This method is very efficient and recommended, when: • The shape of front teeth and position in arc is irregular; • Changed color of front teeth (dead teeth, or damaged by fluorosis, tetracycline); • Wide, unaesthetic gaps between teeth (diastemas); • Dark tooth pigment that can not be removed using whitening methods; • Traumas when part of cracked teeth need to be reconstructed; • Insufficient height of teeth (low teeth); many unaesthetic fillings. Veneering procedure helps to achieve three goals: 1. to obtain as great effect of teeth shape, color and position in arc, as possible; 2. to reconstruct the solid tissue of teeth; 3. to restore the chewing function. Porcelain veneering is characterized with the following undoubted advantages: • Porcelain is characterized with great adherence to enamel. • It is more resistant than composite synthetic veneering or fillings (esthetic filling). • It doesn’t change color or the gloss. • Less tooth tissue is removed, than in case of crowns or filling. • It functions for 10 – 12 years, whereas fillings last for 3-8 years. • Tooth gum tissue tolerates porcelain well, without potential danger of allergy. • Even extremely dark teeth can become extremely white. • The method of esthetic filling is not always suitable for covering of dark teeth; fillings do not retain the gloss.
