Some advices on special care after tooth removal:

1. Bleeding. Clench a cheesecloth tampon for 20 minutes after removal of tooth.
If the bleeding persists, change the tampon with fresh one and clench it firmly for another 20 minutes. If necessary, repeat it again. If the bleeding persists, contact a doctor.

2. Smoking and alcohol. Do not smoke for at least 12 hours after removal of tooth.
Smoke worsens healing of sore. Do not use alcohol for 24 hours after procedure.

3. Rinse. Do not rinse your mouth on the day of removal. Drink cold drinks only; do not suck nor spit, as blood clot can be removed from your mouth.
The next day, rinse (especially after meals) with disinfecting solutions, recommended by your doctor. Use the recommended rinsing liquids for one week.

4. Advice. In order to relieve the swelling, fold an ice-pack wrapped into a cloth to your face, at the removal point. Hold it for 30 minutes with 15 minute breaks for 4-5 hours.

5. Pain. Use any painkillers non-liquefying blood to reduce average pain. If you had a long operation, take painkillers prescribed by your doctor dentist.

6. Food. Soft (not hot) food is recommended during the first 24 hours after procedure.

7. Stitches. If the sore was stitched, stitches are usually removed in one week.

8. Medicine. If certain medicine was prescribed, use it as prescribed by a doctor.

9. Hygiene. Appropriate oral hygiene facilitates the healing process. Be careful for a few days after operation, brush your teeth with special care, in order to avoid damaging of sore and stitches.

Remember – unkept teeth are only removed in exceptional cases, when they cannot be healed in any other methods.
If you do not pay better attention to your oral hygiene and treatment of teeth, some other teeth can also need removing.
