Sealants – the path to healthy teeth

Sealant:

  • It is a decay prevention material, stopping bacteria and carbohydrates from reaching tooth pits and grooves.
  • A special liquid is used to fill pits and grooves.
  • The procedure is painless, no drilling is required; the tooth is cleaned using a brush and sealed.

Sealant closes pits and grooves, food residue does not accumulate, teeth are easier to clean. Only healthy permanent teeth (molars and premolars) are sealed.

Usually permanent molars are sealed after erupting (6-7 years: first molars; 9-11 years: second molars and premolars).

  • Sealant is applied on the occlusal surface and elsewhere in the pits and grooves.
  • Sealant may stay up to 10 years.
  • It is determined that 85% of sealed teeth remain intact after 10 years.
